About Rayna

Approach to Therapy

I utilize an eclectic approach when it comes to therapy. This means I draw from a variety of therapeutic theories to best fit the client I am sitting with. I have provided a brief explanation of each one below.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):

Explores the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT):

Focuses on accepting uncomfortable thoughts and emotions and committing to behaving differently.

Solutions-Focused:

Utilizes the strengths and skills an individual already brings to therapy to enhance their tools.

Family Systems:

Sees the family as one whole unit with each family member playing a specific role that contributes to the dynamic.

Therapy + Athletics

Rayna is passionate about supporting individuals throughout their lifespan. She works with children, teenagers and adults, utilizing a safe, collaborative, and person-centered approach to her therapy.

She views each person as their own unique individual who has their own set of needs and is the expert of themselves. She will be her client’s biggest advocate, while openly including immediate family members and additional providers they wish to involve to ensure a well-rounded therapeutic relationship.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to anxiety, autism, depression, ADHD, behavioral issues, career indecision, managing general life stressors, and sports performance.

She is a former Multisport athlete, NCAA Division 1 Lacrosse player, coach, and mental health professional who has combined her personal experiences and professional expertise to provide mental health education, support and mindset training to athletes, coaches, parents and teams.

She grew up in Northern Maryland where she attended Manchester Valley High School as a multisport athlete in soccer, basketball and lacrosse. She was a part of the State Championship Lacrosse Team as a player and captain, winning in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

She then attended Towson University and played on the Women’s Lacrosse Team for 5 years as a starter and 2 time team captain. In 2022-2023, she was a Graduate Assistant Coach for the lacrosse team as she completed her master’s degree. She also holds extensive experience as a lacrosse coach for elementary-middle school athletes.

Navigating Adversity

Rayna personally understands the devastating impact of injuries as she suffered an ACL, MCL, and meniscus tear that ended her high school athletics career and would set her behind in her freshman year at Towson. After this injury, she experienced additional injuries throughout her college career: torn meniscus, additional knee surgeries, and a fractured left foot requiring two surgeries.

Rayna is now able to use these adversities in her work with other athletes under the Mindset Training Institute, founded by Arman Taghizadeh, M.D.
